Kia ora. Welcome to the Hocken Collections.

The Hocken Collections are open to all individuals who wish to visit our reading rooms and exhibitions, and those people who cannot visit but wish to use the collections and research services available. There is no charge for access to the Hocken Collections.

Answers to the most commonly asked questions we receive from our readers are available at Frequently Asked Questions.

A number of guides about the sources held relating to specific subject areas have been produced by the Friends of the Hocken Collections. There are also several guides that have been produced by Hocken staff that relate to genealogy and Maori Resources.

There are a range of postcards, cards and publications available for sale and they can be viewed and ordered at the Hocken Collections Online shop.

If you are planning to visit the Hocken Collections, useful information about our hours, location, parking and tours can be found at Hocken Collections. The galleries on the first floor offer a constantly changing exhibitions programme. Information about current exhibitions can be found at What's On.

If you are not able to visit the collections and would like information about a particular research topic a limited reference service is available. You can send us a letter or e-mail your inquiry using the online form at Ask a Question. If you would prefer to talk to one of the staff on the telephone during our opening hours use contacts to locate the appropriate department and staff.
