New UsersOn this pageRelated informationWho may use the Hocken Collections? The collection is available to both the public and the University, providing both a personal and written reference service. There is no charge for access. Readers are asked to follow some general guidelines when using the Hocken Collections. They are requested to put bags in the lockers provided before coming into the Reference areas, and to sign the Readers Register at the Reference Desks each day. The Hocken is a research collection. Material is housed in secure stacks and browsing is not permitted. Staff will retrieve requested items which are consulted in supervised reading rooms - all items are reference only and must be used in the reading rooms. ReferenceThe General Reference area is on the Ground Floor. Here readers can request materials from the publications, maps, music, and archives and manuscripts collections. Access to the Pictorial collections is from the First Floor where there is an enquiry desk. Being a research collection most resources are housed in closed stacks and not available for browsing. Staff at the Reference Desks are happy to show readers how to locate and order material through the catalogues and to advise on resources. How do I find material?
