Borrowing quotasAnybody with a valid library card may borrow items from the University Libraries. The items you may borrow will depend on the type of library card you have: Undergraduates (includes Foundation Studies and Otago Language Centre students)Books:

Borrow DirectA service that allows you to search for items simultaneosly in the University of Otago, AUT, University of Waikato and Victoria University of Wellington library catalogues.
For items not held by the University of Otago Library, or in any of the Borrow Direct libraries, make a Document Delivery/Interloan request. Renewing itemsAll borrowers can normally renew items for additional loan periods, providing they have not been requested by another borrower. You can renew your own items through the library catalogue > My Account. Renewals may also be made by telephone and email.
Your library card determines your quota of renewals. View borrowing allowances for specific renewal information. Course ReserveThe Reserve Collections provide access to high demand items, such as textbooks and recommended readings. The Collections are kept behind the Loans/Reserve desks (except the Central Library - Reserve is situated on the first floor). Reserve items are issued for short time periods for use within the library and it may be booked for short time periods with the assistance of library staff. Access Course Reserve on the library catalogue. E-reserveE-reserve refers to online reserve items available for download via the library catalogue > Course Reserve. It can include journal articles, conference papers, or chapters/sections of books.
Three-day loan booksThree-day loan books are also part of the Course Reserve system but these are kept on the open shelves. They may be renewed or, if on loan, recalled. Teaching staff placing items on reserveStaff may request items be placed on Close/Electronic Reserve or 3-day loan via the Reserve online request form or by emailing:
Lecturers' personal copies of items can be temporarily held in close reserve, but no responsibility can be accepted for safety or condition. Where possible, the Library will order a copy of the item. OnlineCheck to see if the University of Otago is already listed as a payee. (If not, the University's bank account number is: 06-0901-0001203-00) Enter details exactly as follows – payments can be difficult to track otherwise.
